A Routine Checkup
Darkest Moment of My Life
Breaking the Cycle
In 2009, at the age of 23, I was diagnosed with infertility. For the first time in my life, I was required to fight for my reproductive rights.
For so long, I’d lived with the assumption that we (women) had fought and won that battle years ago, as I had grown up in a conservative household. Women’s issues were not spoken about.
After my diagnosis, I was essentially forced to re-learn everything I thought I knew about myself and how society viewed me.
I spent the next several years not only fighting my own battle, but also learning about the battles of other women in similar shoes. Women who have been forced to view the ultrasound of their children prior to termination. Women, like my daughter’s birth mother, who didn’t even have a choice in the matter.
And now? I have a daughter… A strong little girl who I don’t want to see have to fight these same battles.
That’s what this is all about for me. It’s about supporting any legislation that takes power from the lawmakers and puts it back into the hands of those who matter: us.
